I Have Been Cured

It is amazing, suddenly I have been cured!!! Oh wait today is April 1st, isn’t it? Damn it!

April Fools’ Day (sometimes called All Fools’ Day) is an annual Western celebration commemorated on April 1 by playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes. The jokes and their victims are called April fools. People playing April Fool jokes often expose their pranks by shouting “April fool(s)” at the unfortunate victim(s). Some newspapers, magazines, and other published media report fake stories, which are usually explained the next day or below the news section in smaller letters. Although popular since the 19th century, the day is not a public holiday in any country.

Aside from April Fools’ Day, the custom of setting aside a day for the playing of harmless pranks upon one’s neighbor has historically been relatively common in the world.

In my younger days, I used to play some pranks on my family and co-workers, but not so much today. Some of my personal favorites are:

Being an IT nerd, I liked to hit the CTRL + Alt + Up keys at the same time on co-workers’ computer to rotate their screens. It really doesn’t work much anymore. Another IT thing was to put tape over the sensor on a co-worker’s optical mouse. Wrapping someone’s keyboard, mouse and monitor was always fun too. When I was in the Marine Corps, we would take someone’s cover (hat) and wet it, and put it in the freezer. We would also put it in the cold sandwich vending machine so they had to pay to get it back.

I like hearing what Google and Pornhub do every year (both are well known for their April Fools Day pranks). PornHub has done HornHub (where every video on the front page are about horns) and CornHub (yep, you guessed it) and one year they even fooled everything by telling them that the pornographic video they just selected had been shared automatically on their Facebook feed.

Some of the best April Fool jokes of last year (2018)

What are some of your favorite April Fool pranks?
