Amazon - Seller Soliciting 5-Star Reviews

This is post six of my 10-part series on Amazon – This is about soliciting reviews.

Problem: Seller soliciting 5-star reviews
Problem: Product quality control
Problem: Image manipulation

Mouth Guard for Grinding Teeth and Clenching Anti Grinding Teeth Custom Moldable Dental Night Guard Dental Night Guards -4 Pack/One Size for $15.98. I was a little concerned that I might not get four guards all the same size and that seemed to be a problem in a fair amount of the 1-star reviews, however, I got the correct size.

These things were junk, and the vendor was soliciting 5-star reviews

These were exactly as described, however, the process to make the molds is a little tricky and cumbersome. What I mean, is you need to heat the water to 176-182 degrees. If the water is too hot, then the entire mold melts into an unusable glob of clear plastic and if you are not hot enough, the molding process will fail. And the really fun part is that you get to put this hot piece of gooey plastic into your mouth and hold it there for a few seconds. And if you mess up either too hot or not hot enough, the mold is useless and you need to use a new one.

With a calibrated thermometer in hand, I carefully reached the correct temperature and put it in one of the molds, it quickly got stuck to the bottom of the pan, making a mess. Alright, I put a couple of folded paper towels into the water and placed the next mold onto one of the towels (this is not in the instructions). I was careful to not allow the mold to be in the hot water for more than 15 seconds. I pulled it out and following the directions let it cool for 4 seconds and put it in my mouth for 15 seconds. I pulled it out and I had about an 80% completed mold. For some reason, one side didn’t mold well.

Alright round number three and I made a perfect mold. Fun times!

As a side note, I no longer wear this night guard as it pinches my gums in the back of my mouth and is very painful the next day.

I also found it funny that the instructions want you to use chopsticks to remove the guard from the hot water. I also like how one of the images of the product showcases the new color of the cardboard box that holds the new guards. The images of the product showcase the guards akin to Invisaligns, which are nowhere close to that type of mold.

A really sad part of this is that there is a note inside the box soliciting 5-star reviews.
