Making Marines Look Bad

Get a load of this BS. I was on my way to my dentist appointment, driving along Plank Road in Fredericksburg, which is known to be a very busy and dangerous road, due to the large amount of traffic and the number of boneheads that don’t pay attention. I’m in the far left lane, and the car in front of me moved over to the left turn lane, and I moved up to fill the space that they vacated with the plan to then move into the 5-6 car length space that they had in front of them. Just as I was a few feet into the space that was vacated, a light blue Toyota Highlander with expired temporary Virginia license tags moved into the same space that I was partially already occupying. Not wanting to get involved in a crash, because I love my 2006 pickup truck, I quickly hit the brakes and the Highlander moved into the spot. At the next light, the driver rolls down his window and gives me the middle finger, as if I had done something wrong. The light turned green and the line of cars move to the next stop light.

Plank Road / Route 3 in Fredericksburg, is also known for its many stoplights, and you usually need to stop at every single one of them, regardless of the time of the day. At the next stoplight, I moved into the left lane to turn onto the road that my dentist’s office is on and the driver of the Toyota suddenly stops his SUV and rolls down his window again, and once again gives me the bird and then starts to yell at me. I, being a Marine, and not want to step back from a challenge (it’s a Marine thing) as I will only take so much until I have to defend myself. So, I roll down my window and I yell at him telling him that if he cuts me off like that again, I will let him hit me and he can pay for it all.

As if it carries some weight, he thumps his chest and yells at me that he is a U.S. Marine (based on the long hair and unshaven face he was not on active duty, if he was a Marine). I guess, he didn’t see my license plate that clearly states that I’m a Marine Veteran as well. Being a Jarhead, I felt compelled to yell back, that I could give a fuck if he is a Marine (I guess he was hoping to get the brothers and sisters “discount”, lol). Then he moved forward in his lane, rolling up his window and turning onto a road that is different from him.

Ok, I’m not sure why he felt compelled to act the way that he did, if he was a Marine veteran, then he certainly drives like shit and gives the rest of us a bad name. For the record, I live in an area that has a ton of Marines and Marine veterans, as Fredericksburg is just a few miles away from MCB Quantico.

Update:
Two days later, I was on my way home from some errands, and I pull up to a red light, a few seconds later two cars pull into the two lanes next to me. I hear some yelling, I look over and sure enough, it was the Toyota Highlander driver, yelling at another driver and giving them the bird. I guess this is how he lives, going around bitching all the time.
