Forgetting Things - Did I Do That?

I hate forgetting things, it happens so much now that I think I forget more than I remember.

I can’t tell you how many times a day I will look at something that I did or something that I wrote and I honestly have no clue that it is my actual work. It is so frustrating when I look at it and I tell my wife, I have never seen that before and she will tell me that I did it yesterday. I have the same conversations with my son often where I will say that I need to do X or Y and he will tell me that I did that yesterday or maybe last week. It is not only frustrating, but after a while, it really starts to make you think that the people you trust are playing games on you. I know that they aren’t, but it does mess with your mind.

Steve Urkel "Did I do that?"

Just imagine that you washed your car yesterday and spent an hour waxing it to make it look really good. Then straight out of a scene from “50 First Dates” with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, where Drew wakes up every morning with no memory of anything that has happened in her life, you wake up and dread having to clean and wax your car today. Well, it is like that, but it is conversations, tasks, and things like that. I have notes all over my desk at work to remind me of what I have to do, and what I was working on the day before. If I don’t leave the notes, I will never be able to figure it out.

To combat this at work, like I said, I rip through Post-It notes and I carry a pen and small notebook with me all the time. I’m always telling my co-workers to send me an email to remind me of something that they want me to do.

At home, I’m a whole lot more lax about it and I shouldn’t be, because I know how annoying for my family it is. I will keep trying.
