Computer Security Day
Sadly, there is only one Computer Security Day each year, and I know many people never seem to learn anything about Computer Security. Cyber security affects everything from where we bank and how we spend our money to who we elect to public office. It isn’t a joke, the worst email virus in history caused $38.5 billion in damage.
At the beginning of 2018, the Defense Travel System (DTS) of the United States Department of Defense (DOD) sent an unencrypted email to the wrong distribution list. The email that the DTS sent within the usmc.mil official unclassified Marine domain and also to some civilian accounts exposed the personal information of approximately 21,500 Marines, sailors, and civilians. Per Marine Corps Times, the data included victims’ bank account numbers, truncated Social Security Numbers, and emergency contact information.
