I Need A Bambulance
There are several versions of this urban legend floating around, but the one that appears to be the original and the copy that I have heard the first time and the most since the first time is below.
There are also a handful of stories going around, most of them stating that the call was real, but I have heard from reliable sources that the call is actually a joke pulled by Mickey Dawes. The story that I heard was that Mickey worked for a company that programmed the 911 computer systems. Mickey would test the system, by calling the unknowing 911 dispatcher and run through the Joe vs Deer storyline.
The version that we heard above is between Mickey and a Texas 911 dispatcher. The story goes on to say that Mickey would use this call as an “icebreaker” to loosen up nervous dispatchers while Mickey taught them the new computer-aided dispatch systems. Some internet sites claim that this can be traced back to 1974, which is amazing when you think about it.
By the way, we still don’t know who gets the deer. Chris Farley and David Spade paid homage to this urban legend in the 1995 movie Tommy Boy.
