System Administrator Appreciation Day
The System Administrator Appreciation Day is on the last Friday of July and celebrates the individuals who are working around the clock (often behind the scenes) in order to keep our virtual world running. System administrators are people who take care of installing and troubleshooting anything and everything related to Information Technology (IT).
This day is near and dear to my heart as I have been working as a Systems administrator for over 20 years, for the Federal Government.
Back in the 90s while I was in the Marine Corps, the Corps didn’t have an MOS for Systems Administration, so they would often select Marines to learn the skill and work it as a B-Billet or collateral duty. I was one of those Marines and I was formally taught SunOS and Solaris (Unix) Systems Administration. Back during that time, Windows was version 3.0 and there wasn’t really a Server version yet. As Windows matured, I learned it along with my Unix skills. I owe it all to the Marine Corps, without the Corps, no telling where I would be today.Â

Welcome to the Average Joe Weekly blog. This is basically my place on the web where I can help spread some of the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. I served 10+ years in the Marine Corps on Active Duty, but that was some 25 years ago.
