Snipers Nest My Ass

This image with the caption of “Snipers nest 81 years later..found as is…” has been making the rounds online and on Social Media.
There is no way in the world that the tree it is propped up on is 80 years old, period. The tree would have grown around the rifle and there is no indication of that. The scopes appear to be modern-day red dot and a magnified scope. In fact, it looks like the scopes are just placed on there as the front one is upside down and in the way of the bolt.
But the more I look at it, the more it looks like it might be a Mosin rifle with a PU or PE scope, that has all but rusted away over the years and today it is just resting on top of the rifle.
You can see that the real rifle is resting or propped up in the tree in the video here, and the scope is lying on top, roughly where it would go. Nice historical find, but the caption of “81 years” is pure BS.
Now let’s put this one to bed. The rifle is real the scope is real and badly rusted. Being an 81-year-old sniper’s nest, well that is BS.
Here is a link to the Daily Mail, where they have a nice article about actual WW II abandoned weapons. There are some cool images there.

Welcome to the Average Joe Weekly blog. This is basically my place on the web where I can help spread some of the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. I served 10+ years in the Marine Corps on Active Duty, but that was some 25 years ago.
