State of Mine - God's Country
Not a new band or a new song, but a great cover of a little know group (State of Mine) and of a very popular Blake Shelton song.
State of Mine is a metal band from Laingsburg, Michigan, consisting of lead singer Jay Gearhart, bassist Corey Smith, drummer Mike Martin, rhythm guitarist Matt Martin, and lead guitarist Aaron Ruhl. They formed in 2010 and started playing in the local music scene, opening for national acts like Black Label Society, Adelitas Way, and Saliva.
In 2014, they released “St8 of Mine” (their debut EP), in 2016, they released the “Devil in Disguise” EP, and in 2020 they released the “Seeing Red” EP.
God’s Country is performed by State of Mine and Country artist Drew Jacobs (Drew also oversees music videos for their label – Noise Machine Records)
This is not the first time State of Mine covered a Country song, earlier in 2021, they paired with “>No Resolve and covered Garth Brooks‘ #1 hit “The Thunder Rolls”. This version of The Thunder Rolls debuted at the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs and also topped both the Rock Digital Song Sales and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts.
Brooks himself even commented on the cover on his show “Inside Studio G,” saying he was really impressed and loved the band that made the song theirs. Garth also stated, “Also thank you for how you interpreted it,” he said. “Because you played it the way I wish I had the balls enough to play it. It feels great.”

Welcome to the Average Joe Weekly blog. This is basically my place on the web where I can help spread some of the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. I served 10+ years in the Marine Corps on Active Duty, but that was some 25 years ago.
