Happy Thanksgiving

AverageJoe and his team of guest bloggers, along with his family and friends are thankful this Thanksgiving for many things. This infographic from the MilitaryBenefits.info website sums it up for us. Please be safe this Thanksgiving and keep our troops in your thoughts.

Did You Know?

Long before homemade and canned cranberry sauces became a traditional Thanksgiving meal, indigenous Americans had many other uses for the small red fruit. Not only did they eat cranberries fresh and use them as an ingredient in other foods, native communities also used cranberries to heal wounds and dye fabrics.

In 2020, the Defense Logistics Agency shipped out the following quantities of food to Troops deployed overseas:

  • 9,000 whole turkeys
  • 51,000 pounds of roasted turkeys
  • 74,000 pounds of beef
  • 21,000 pounds of ham
  • 67,000 pounds of shrimp
  • 16,000 pounds of sweet potatoes
  • 19,000 pounds of pies and cakes
  • 7,000 gallons of eggnog

That doesn’t even include all the other fixings that go into the meal!

This Thanksgiving, remember those that can't come home this Thanksgiving
