USMC "Rose Garden" Recruiting Commercial

The “Rose Garden” commercial was being broadcasted over the TV airwaves when I was a kid. The first time I saw this commercial it rang true to me and it is what got me interested in the Marine Corps. The Drill Instructor was Sgt. Chuck Taliano was only a month away from his five-year enlistment when the commercial was made. I hung the “We don’t promise you a rose garden” poster in my bedroom sometime after I saw this commercial.

Sgt Taliano spent 3-years of his enlistment on the drill field at MCRD Parris Island. The “Rose Garden” commercial was part of a series of new TV commercials and Print media to promote the Marine Corps.

“If you just want to be one of the boys stick with the boys,” a voiceover said. “The Marines are looking for a few good men.” The ‘Rose Garden’ recruiting push ran from 1971-1984.

The “Marine God Puller” blog has a great bio about Sgt Taliano.

Welcome to the Average Joe Weekly blog. This is basically my place on the web where I can help spread some of the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. I served 10+ years in the Marine Corps on Active Duty, but that was some 25 years ago.
