Kabul ISIS-K Attack Survivors

As of the morning of Sept 1st, 15 wounded Marines were receiving treatment at Walter Reed National  Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, following an Aug. 26 bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.

“Of those, one is in critical condition, three are in serious condition and 11 are in stable condition,” Maj. James Stenger, a Marine Corps spokesman.

As of September 14th, the Marine Corps has 7 wounded at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center resulting from the attack on 26 August.

The Marines were processing Afghans through the airport gate when a suicide bomber carrying about 25 pounds of explosives approached the service members, The Associated Press reported.

LCpl Romel Finley III (USMC)

Finley is from Kenosha, Wisconsin.

A close family friend states “His wounds will impact his life forever, Romel has suffered partial face paralysis, multiple gunshot wounds, shrapnel throughout his body, a broken hip as a result of a gunshot wound, and large blast wounds to an arm and leg.”

He is recovering at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Cpl Kelsee Lainhart (USMC)

Kelsee (20) is from Saint Leon, Indiana, and is an S2 Marine Marine attached to Alpha Co., 2d Recon Bn.

Kelsee is recovering from serious injuries including spinal surgery (26 staples in her back from the surgery). Besides her spinal injury, Kelsee has numerous other injuries and it may take up to two years of rehab to get her walking again.

She is recovering at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Cpl Wyatt Jay Wilson (USMC)

Wilson is from Carbon County, Utah

Wyatt is credited with helping rescue other injured Marines including Kelsee Lainhart and help get her into the medivac vehicle.

Wyatt suffered facial and chest trauma, multiple shrapnel wounds to his abdomen and extremities and underwent surgery to repair his jaw, and will require several more surgeries while at Walter Reed hospital.

He is recovering at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Sergeant Tyler Justin Vargas-Andrews (USMC)

Tyler (23) is from Folsom, California, and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, based at Camp Pendleton.

He has already undergone at least nine surgeries since the blast.

Vargas-Andrews was part of a scout sniper team with 2/1 when he was severely wounded.

He is recovering at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Lule is from Coachella Valley, California.

Salvador was seriously wounded, with major injuries on both the upper and lower parts of his body.
