Happy Women's Veterans Day
I’m not so sure how I feel about this, but I’m going to celebrate it regardless. Women’s Veterans Day is observed on June 12 in the United States, a date chosen to mark the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act. The date is not recognized nationally but is recognized by several states, either through legislation or proclamation, and organizations.
So why am I not sure how I feel about it you ask? I have a problem where every single individual group needs to have their day. I have nothing at all with women being in the military. In the ten years, I was on active duty in the Marines, I ran into many female Marines that I would rather have protecting my six than some of the male Marines. My problem is with gender, it is with the fact that they need to have their day. They are veterans period, no need to single them out. There isn’t a need for a Black America Veterans Day or an “LGTBQ+ Veterans Day” “I’m Over Six Foot Tall Veterans Day” or “I Own A Dog Veterans Day“. And before you start to bitch about LGTBQ+ is not the correct term any longer, let me just point out, that I don’t give a shit, period. The whole LGBTQ+ Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer…. is so confusing, since they are all different words for the same thing. Doesn’t being a Lesbian mean that you are gay in the first place, ugh, don’t get me started down that rabbit hole, please.
I’m just not sure why everyone needs to have their own very special day just for themselves. In fact, veterans are usually best served in a crowd rather than alone to start with.
Happy V-Day ladies, cheer!

Welcome to the Average Joe Weekly blog. This is basically my place on the web where I can help spread some of the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. I served 10+ years in the Marine Corps on Active Duty, but that was some 25 years ago.
