Just for clarification on the rifle qualifications in the Air Force, in 2019 the Air Force remodeled their weapons qualifications, now they are firing the M4 carbine for the first time. Prior to that, trainees at Basic Military Training only got limited experience firing the M16A2 rifle under the weapons familiarization course, and their weapons qualification came later, after graduating from BMT and were at their first duty station.
