Drone Swarms

Drone swarm shows are quickly replacing large fireworks displays in many locations. And after watching one, I can understand why I have one word today and that is “AMAZING”!!!

This is a 700-drone swarm at the Otaru Ushiro Festival also known as the Tide Festival, at Otaru city in Hokkaido, Japan. The three-day event is split into three parts, starting with the Ushio Furekomi opening ceremony with floats and dancers parading through the neighborhood.

The drones create a 100-meter (approximately 325 feet) display in the sky, forming Pokémon characters like Charizard, Gengar, and more. It is a must-see!!! Sadly this is only a preview of the show, as due to technical issues the live stream of the show had to be canceled. Which Pokémon would you pick to be represented by drones in such a show?

If you aren’t following what is going on here, here is a good video of the setup for a July 4th, 500-Drone display.

Here is a short video of a 150-drone show at the Derby Days 2022 in Redmond, WA (the video is being displayed at 2x or 4x time).

This is a 600 drone swarm that set a Guinness World Record. The longest animation performed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is 26 min 19 sec and was achieved by EFYI Group (China) and supported by Tianjin University (China) in Tianjin, China, on 18 December 2020. They depicted the life of Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh.  **The video is sped up by 365%**

Verge Aero won a Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent: Extreme (AGT) in 2022, with 160 drones. I love the expression on Simon Cowell’s face when they tell the judges what they are going to do. He must be thinking, “OMG, another lame half-ass display of stupidity”.  Yet, he is the first to stand at the end and is the one that hits the Golden Buzzer.

There are hundreds of videos on YouTube showing professional drone shows. This will surely be replacing fireworks and many events in the near future.
