What to Do if You Suspect Stolen Valor?

If you are a member of the military (or veteran) and you suspect Stolen Valor and you are well versed in that military branch’s traditions, then by all means question them. Anyone who was actually on active Duty or a veteran shouldn’t have a problem with you asking a few questions.

I have no problem calling out a poser, I have many times on Facebook and once in real life. But if things get heated or the poser doesn’t back down, you have options. As stated before, since congress passed the Stolen Valor Act of 2013, Stolen Valor is a criminal offense punishable by up to six months in jail.

But keep in mind many of these posers have a real mental defect that needs to be addressed as well. They usually aren’t acting like a poser just for the fun of it.

I recommend that you contact one of the below groups for assistance.

Welcome to the Average Joe Weekly blog. This is basically my place on the web where I can help spread some of the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. I served 10+ years in the Marine Corps on Active Duty, but that was some 25 years ago.
