RIP Gilbert Gottfried

Gilbert Gottfried was a great comedian and actor. SNL got his start in 1980 as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (SNL). In this first skit, you may not recognize him as he is using his real voice. What?? That wasn’t his real voice, and all these years it was fake. Yep, Gilbert like Bobcat Goldthwait made his career out of that fake voice.

Gilbert passed away today at the age of 67 after a battle with a long illness. Gilbert died from recurrent ventricular tachycardia, complicated by type II myotonic dystrophy. That is very fast heart rate caused his Myotonic dystrophy (DM)which is a type of muscular dystrophy (a group of genetic disorders that cause progressive muscle loss and weakness).

Gilbert was known for not only his acting and comedy but his voice-over talents. He was the voice of the Aflac Duck, Iago the Parrot (Disney’s Aladdin), and several dozen other voices. In fact, Gilbert was one of the first actors to be canceled after Aflac fired him for a joke about the Japanese Tsunami.
