Turn Your Head and Cough - Hernia Exam
I know that one of the fears some men have when they visit their doctor, is the “turn your head and cough“, especially if it is a female doctor. They get all embarrassed that she is going to touch his junk or he is going to pop a boner. I have had several dozen of these hernia exams and in fact, have had one even diagnosed by a female doctor.
What is a Hernia Exam?
When your doctor tells you to look to the side and cough, he or she is checking you for a hernia. A hernia is caused by a weakness in the abdominal wall which allows the abdominal contents (mostly fat, but rarely intestines) to slip down into the scrotal sac. This is more likely to happen when you increase the pressure in your abdomen by coughing. The doctor is holding on to your balls to feel if there is anything slipping into them when you cough. He or she only has you turn your head so that you don’t cough in their face!
There is nothing sexual or gay about this.
Since I served in the Marine Corps, I guess I pretty much-lost dignity for those kinds of things when I was going through the MEPS process while I was joining the Marine Corps. So MEPS is the Military Entrance Processing Station, and during the medical exam process, there are 50-60 guys all butt-ass naked, standing around as the group of doctors and nurses perform their exams. They would basically go down the line and grope each of us one by one. Somewhere during all that you just stop giving a shit. I recall the group of us doing the duck walk and all sorts of other shit. But the good ol’ turn your head and cough was surely part of the exam.
My worst story is about a female doctor giving me a hernia exam and a prostate exam, but she had two students in tow with her. The worst part, was when preparing for the exam, the nurse asked me to strip down to just my underwear, and during the exam, I was asked to remove them and my gown fell down. So I was standing there butt naked in front of all of them. And then she does her exam and has the two students do the same.
Good thing I really didn’t give crap about it.
