Surprise Birthday Party

I’m so touched, I work with some of the greatest people in the world. So when I was in the hospital a few weeks back, several of my co-workers visited me and hung out with me for several hours, and that was nice to hang out with co-workers outside of work and not actually talk about work subjects. I don’t make friends easily, well easy is a word, but not the right word, I don’t make friends at all. I’m too socially awkward and end up pissing them off in a few days, so I just avoid it altogether. But not only did they pay me a visit while I was laid up, but they planned and executed an awesome surprise birthday party for me (a good 10 days after my birthday due to me being in the hospital and being out of work sick for a long time). I was totally caught off guard by the whole thing. In fact, I was called to the conference room for a meeting and they had it all decorated, the whole 9 yards, streamers, and banners plus everyone brought me chocolate (running gag at work, but basically they pay the IT guy in chocolate). I ended up with 3-5 gallon ziplock bags full of chocolate, plus more. The sad thing about it is that I haven’t had any of it as I feel like crap and just not wanting to eat at all.

I’m so humbled to be thought of by my co-workers in this light, I’m so touched and I can never repay them for what they did for me when I was down.

Thank you, guys!

How sweet, I so miss my co-workers. If I haven’t said it already, I’m no longer working as it is just too much for me. I’m currently medically retired, but I can go back when I’m ready to. Pay the IT guy in chocolate, I think I could take that as a form of payment. Happy Belated Birthday by the way.

    1. It was a very nice surprise for me, I was so touched by it. I was actually very humbled by it, I didn’t deserve it really.

Why do you think you didn’t deserve it? Obviously, your co-workers thought you did, you are truly blessed.

It sounds like your co-workers really appreciate you and the work you do with or for them. Having their support is huge, enjoy it while you can. I hate to be Debbie Downer, but it will all fade. The worse your condition gets the more your work will slip, the less they will appreciate you and for some that appreciation will turn into resent.

I agree with you on this one SS90. It is a sad truth, but it will fade and eventually be replaced with resent. Our society is not able nor ready to handle people that are different.
      Blessings
