Hurricane Ian Is On The Way
I don’t live in Florida, but I have family in Florida, my retired mother and step-father live in Winter Haven, in a mobile home, So what’s to worry about? We mobilized the Average family to include the Average son, Average brother, and Average nephew. We were standing by and going to meet and drive down together to help where we could. Since my Average brother and Average nephew live in Ohio, we were going to meet somewhere and then caravan our way down to Winter Haven. It was a long night for the Average family and the Average extended family. This morning Average mother was not answering her phone, but the Average step-father did reply and told us that they have no power, but they are otherwise good. He said the Average mother is still in bed.
Surprisingly they faired extremely well. It appears that once Average mother woke up and the storm had completely passed, they lost a little piece here and a piece there, but nothing major.
Mrs. Average and Joe Average got married in the middle of Hurricane Gilbert, then they moved to Homestead Florida and left Homestead the first week of June and moved to North Carolina, however, the Government hadn’t moved their household belongings yet. Andrew hit Homestead hard and we thought we lost all of our belongings. We were watching the storm unfold on our TV as we sat on the floor. There was a knock on the door and to our surprise, it was our household belongings. That was a nice surprise for us. We rode out a few hurricanes in Florida, and a few more in North Carolina, and then we moved to Virginia Beach, where we seemed to have one every other week. Hell Hurricane Dennis just wanted to hang out at Virginia Beach for a while, he loitered off the coast, and then lost a ton of power, before it turned back to head south, picked up the intensity, and hit North Carolina. I was on active duty at the time and I remember the games we played getting ready and then standing down and getting ready again.
We left the Marine Corps and moved to Fredericksburg, we had more Nor’ Easters than hurricanes here, except for Hurricane
I’m sorry that so many others lost so much.
