OMG, What Was All That?

I woke up to go to work like normal, I haven’t been feeling well the past few days, nothing major, just blah. When I got up, I was freezing cold, I mean uncontrollably shivering. I took a super hot long shower and still couldn’t get warm. After 20 minutes I had to get out and try another way. I dried off and went downstairs and climbed under several thick blankets in front of a space heater. Still, no joy, what the hell. I ended up canceling work that day and staying home. My temperature was fluctuating from 95.6 – 100.9 all morning long. I was confused (well more than normal), agitated and restless all at the same time. My wife said that it looked like I had minor convulsions as well.

Turns out I did all this to myself. For the two days prior I had been taking Sudafed for a sinus headache and Aleve for my knee pain, I simply was not thinking clearly. Well wouldn’t you know it, both those medications have interactions with Cymbalta and it appears I may have put myself in a minor case of serotonin syndrome. Oh, joy….

I know you know this lesson now, but NEVER mix anything over the counter with Cymbalta or Gabapentin, you surely will pay for it later. I did something similar, but with a less serious outcome. I took NyQuil once while on Cymbalta and I went to bed, I remember laying there, feeling paralyzed as though I was in a dream. My breathing was super shallow and my loving husband never even noticed anything was wrong. But that was then and this is now. I’m glad to hear that you are feeling better now.

    1. Yes, I learned a very valuable lesson on this one. My wife has told me that she has come in and saw me passed out like you described and didn’t think anything about it. I remember being in a “Stoned – Panic” inside, but she never saw that, so don’t be so hard on your husband, he likely didn’t think anything about it.
