Our First RV
Our first RV was a late 1998 Thor Skamper 21D tent camper that we purchased from my mom. During the four years that we owned this RV, we used it about a dozen times, and we added an upright stand-alone air conditioner to it, to include a board with exhaust vents to allow the heat to escape.
We added solar shields to the pull-out beds, to help stop the sun from heating the inside too much. We also added some shelves to the pull-out beds on each end.
As stated, we purchased it from my mother. When we made our trip to Ohio for a visit, buying an RV was not on the list. So, we had to have a hitch installed on our Chevy Venture van. Our first camping trip was on the way home from that trip. We stopped for the night and had a little adventure camping.
We had it for four years and traded it for a new 2006 TravelStar 21SB, which we still own.
Before owning the camper, we would camp in a tent, which was not Mrs. Average’s cup of tea. For me, I still go tent and backpack camping, but RV camping is still fun, just different.

Welcome to the Average Joe Weekly blog. This is basically my place on the web where I can help spread some of the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. I served 10+ years in the Marine Corps on Active Duty, but that was some 25 years ago.
