U.S. Army Black Hawk Down

Not only did an Army Black Hawk helicopter crash in Alabama, and there were no survivors. But this bird dropped like a lead weight, it didn’t auto-rotate, it simply dropped out of the sky, no, it was more like tumbling end for end. Early reports state that there were only two people on board at the time of the crash.

The UH-60 Black Hawk airframe is used not only by the U.S. Military, but many government, state, and local agencies use it as their primary workhorse. Including HMX-1 uses them for some Presidential and VIP transportation. And the 12th Aviation Battalion uses them to transport members of the Joint Chiefs, Congressional leadership, and other DoD personnel.

According to Sikorsky, there are more than 5,000 UH-60s manufactured.
